In this video Andrew talks about the importance of air release in downpipes and how it contributes to the efficiency of your drainage system.
Downpipes play a crucial role in directing rainwater away from your building’s foundation. However, sometimes air can become trapped within the downpipes, hindering the flow of water. This is often the case when the downpipes are connected directly in to a soakwell, or other underground pipe, to take the water away from the building. When air becomes trapped in downpipes, it creates airlocks, causing water to back up and potentially overflow, leading to water damage and erosion.
A simple relief valve will allow air back in to a downpipe to allow the water to flow away as intended whilst also allowing any excess water, potentially from a full soakwell, to overflow in a controlled manner.
By ensuring proper air release in your downpipes, you can maintain optimal water flow, prevent blockages, and protect your property from water damage.
Remember, regular maintenance of your downpipes, is key to a well-functioning drainage system. Tips on routine gutter maintenance can be found here.
